Layover day in Saugatuck
Wednesday, May 24 -- Saugatuck, Michigan
We planned a layover day in Saugatuck because (1) it's a nice town, (2) we needed to do some chores, and (3) the weather forecast called for small craft warnings with a stiff north wind. In the event, the small craft warning got pushed back to this evening, but we still needed to do chores, and it is still a nice town in which to spend an extra day.
There is no grocery store in Saugatuck (too many high-rent clothing and art stores), but there is one over in Douglas on the other side of Kalamazoo Lake, and the towns run an excellent shuttle bus service for just a dollar a ride for two seniors. What a deal! And they run it year-round, not just during the summer. The grocery store was nice, and they had a liquor department, so that saved a stop. We had lunch at a local joint on the riverfront after we unpacked and stowed everything, then the Captain gave the boat a thorough washing while the Chief Steward hit some of the local doo-dad shops. Dinner will be at Marro's Italian, a long-time local favorite.
P.S. This will be one of the few times when the blog will post so timely. It is the result of a lazy layover day at a marina with good internet service. Don't expect this to be a regular occurrence.
P.P.S. An astute and loyal reader just pointed out that we had set up this blog so that people had to have Google accounts to comment. That was not our intent, just a result of ignorance. The blog is now open to comments by any and all -- including anonymous types -- although it's more fun to know who is saying what.

Astute and loyal reader here - thanks for the Mimi photo! Craunological 2 looks very nice in her new summer waters.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if your adventure is off to a good start, especially now that the captain is feeling better. Thanks for sharing your progress. Happy boating!
ReplyDeleteI’ve been worrying about you with the crazy weather. Thank Goad the captain knows what he is doing …at least on the boat 😎
